Cybercrime gets a new face
The latest Threat Report from cyber security company Gen reveals a worrying development: the number of personalized attacks is increasing rapidly — and artificial intelligence is playing a key role in this.
Scam yourself — the perfidious trick in 2025
More than four million users were warned about “scam-yourself” attacks in the first quarter alone. AI-generated CAPTCHA windows, browser update notifications or supposed security checks pretend that an action is required — but in reality, the victims install the malware themselves.

+1,700 % for fake browser updates
The massive increase in these attacks illustrates the new tactic: the technology is becoming human, the attackers appear trustworthy. This is made possible by AI, deepfakes and stolen identities.
Mobile devices & cryptocurrencies in our sights
Smartphones are also increasingly being targeted. Malware is specifically targeting accessibility functions in order to read banking data or crypto access data.
Particularly brazen: a fake video for the inauguration of the US president, distributed by the CryptoCore group, called for supposed investments — over 4 million dollars were caught in the trap.
Phishing: old, but more dangerous than ever
The number of phishing attacks has increased by 466 % — due to new techniques such as dynamic DNS, subdomain spoofing and deceptively genuine login pages. The pressure on those affected is growing, also because well-known brands such as AT&T or Xfinity are being imitated.
Conclusion
The attack surfaces are growing. Methods are becoming smarter. People are becoming more important as a security factor.
➡️ If you want to protect yourself, you have to rely on more than firewalls: you need awareness, continuous training — and security solutions that can adapt.
