A local radio station in Bavaria has fallen victim to cyber criminals, who have brought regular broadcasting operations to a standstill. Radio Geretsried, a volunteer-run station in the town of the same name, has to run an "emergency tape" after unknown hackers encrypted all the music files.

Russian hacker attack
The broadcaster explains on its website that the attack took place on the night of September 15, 2024 and that "unknown attackers from Russia" could be behind the incident. The hackers are demanding a high ransom for the release of the encrypted data. The board of Radio Geretsried and volunteers are working hard to find a solution. The music editors are exporting music lists and everything that can still be saved. All our systems will then have to be reinstalled. The disruption is expected to last for a while.
